your "second" team or team you have a soft spot foi go to every DC United home match (MLS). don't mind when VfB Stuttgart do well.

soft spot for celtic my best mate at work is a season ticket holder there and been up to a few games with him so i always look out for them or watch em when there on tv.
in england maybe liverpool but tbh nothing is ever going to make me feel the way leeds united do there my number 1 and always will be MOT.
whats like watching dc play is the football any good there ?

I often look out for Everton's results cos I feel they have been in the shadow of Liverpool for too long but Leeds Utd have been my number one team for 35 years now and no other team can make me feel the way they do.
Leeds till I die

my second team is Real Madrid ....especially when Roberto Carlos was playing for them......i think he was a fantastic footballer

I always look for Rangers results cause my mum was Scottish and all her family were Rangers supporters.
In England i look for the Spurs scores, but just as Will and Jo said no team will ever take the place of Leeds.
If there was no LUFC,i wouldnt support anyone

I seem to recall a 15 point deduction ... deducted from Leeds United voted for by the majority of the members of the football league, so
they all can YAWN off and team f.a. has an international side I used to watch but as co-conspirators they can YAWN off enall.
Leeds and Leeds and Leeds

well i don't like any other teams in england really (although i do check how the yank squad at fulham are doing).
see, it's hard for me to be 'die hard' LUFC since i live over here and getting live league 1 matches on tv is impossible much less making it to elland road.
still, LUFC is firmly my first love.

yeah it is. the MLS is improving each year. it's only been around for 12 years but the idea of beckham (LA Galaxy) signing and now possibly figo and juan "shit in the prem" veron signing for teams back then was UNHEARD of.
i'd say the very best MLS teams (DC United, New England, Houston, Chicago) are on par with bottom premiership dwellers (the likes of Fulham, Sunderland, Derby) and mid to top level Championship. that's the BEST.
worst teams (ironically LA Galaxy) would come in close to last if not dead last in the Championship. but that is more an indictment on the management than the talent.
20k average gate. and that's not bad considering it's really in 4th spot for popularity here.

thanks marc now i have a better understanding to what the footy is like over there

hmm.. can't tell if you're being sarky.
ok well if you want a more in-depth analysis...
there is currently no promotion or relegation between the MLS and it's assumed sub-division of the USL, although that will be addressed in the next 10 years. a team can win the MLS Cup, US Open Cup and Champion's League (CONCACAF) as well as one of the central or south american invitational tournaments. DC was in all 4 last season.
the MLS is not as fast as the premiership but not as many route 1 balls either. generally there's no banging it up to a peter crouch type. it's technically inferior to the premiership but tactically just as sound. it's more like the bundesliga.
fitness is a key factor in the MLS due to the heat in the states during the summers and because of that most players can run for hours. lot of overlapping backs running up the wings. in that regard, it always reminds me of south american footie.
keepers are the best export out of the MLS although that's changing now to include big lumbering defenders. if you're ever thoroughly bored, check out how many yanks play in norway, denmark, germany etc.
there is very little away support but that's not unique to the MLS. for example, for me to go to see DC play in LA (the farthest ground from DC) it would be the equivalent of going from middlesbrough *spits* to Tblisi in Georgia!! another illustration, the CLOSEST ground to DC is New York's... which is roughly the same as going from Leeds to Highbury. suffice to say, traveling fans are a rare breed.
we face a big struggle here to get the sport and especially the league the recognition it deserves. die hard american football fans (read c**ts) may have heard of beckham or real madrid and may not even mind the two.. but get them to back their local MLS, USL team and they ain't having it.
i could go on and on and on.. but i'm sure i've bored the piss out of you by now.

you are right there marc, in canada it's a bit better, but still pretty much the same. i go back to the NASL days. late 70's early 80's they tried to bring popularity to the sport by bringing in top players from all over the world, but it never caught on and i doubt it ever will. hell they dont even like hockey in the states and thats from the neighbouring country, why would they like something foreign? i would say the popularity of sports in the usa goes something like this: football, baseball, basketball, nascar, professional wrestling, hockey, soccer and in the canada it's pretty much hockey hockey hockey i have setanta sports canada, so i can see the english league games and i also have goal tv canada, which they have bundesliga, spanish, italian and south american league games, but those are both pay tv stations...

there are several main supporters groups.
barra brava (of which i am a member) is the more vocal, beer drinking of the three main ones. we're a mix of american and central/south americans with a few hotties thrown in to keep us 'civil' (i'll post some pics hehehe).
reflecting our ake-up, our songs are 50% english and 50% spanish.
it's an north american tradition to 'tailgate' before the match. same thing as going to a supporter's pub beforehand.. only in the parking lot. there's usually lots of drinking.. haha
haha i'm actually in that pic.
