Will Leeds Appeal To UEFA?

My views on recent events, as posted on Leeds United World yesterday.

-----------------------------------------

After losing the appeal over our 15 point deduction, and having no option to challenge legally (due to a clause in the agreement Leeds signed on exit of administration) Leeds are now left with only one option - To appeal the Football League's ridiculous fine to UEFA.

I'm a Leeds fan obviously, and am therefore somewhat biased in this matter, but surely UEFA and FIFA will see a 15 point fine, handed to a club with an uncertain future, that the league should be helping as completely ludicrous?

I see no circumstances whatsoever, under which UEFA could justify this - Especially after the pitiful fines handed down to Italian clubs for match fixing! Surely a bigger crime than having financial difficulties?

The FA granted us "exceptional circumstances" when returning the clubs share in the league, and accepted that the club could not get a CVA - So punishing the fans is completely unjustifiable. 25 points in a matter of months, is nothing short of bullying from The FA.

When the likes of West Ham get a fine they can laugh at for breaking the law and Italian clubs get measly fines for cheating to win the league, I have to wonder if this is nothing more than a personal vendetta, from an arrogant Football League chairman that couldn't care less for the fans he's supposed to represent!

I am absolutely livid with the FA's disgraceful handling of this situation, and will be writing to Leeds United personally to ask the club about the possibilty of a European appeal. The outcome of which will of course be posted on Leeds United World.

UEFA have never done Leeds any favours in the past - the Stuttgart affair when they fielded an inelegible player - other teams have been immediately expelled from that seasons competition in similar instances - we had to go to a replay. And Istanbul - had that been the other way round Leeds would not have only been kicked out of europe that season but would have received a several season ban.

Dont forget too AFC wimbledon , they lost 18pts , 18pts for a a tiny infingement of the rules , football governing bodies are look after the rich clubs , the same clubs that look after them , its things like this that will one day come back to haunt them , and football in general will pay a huge price.

As for Bates , i think he has to just accept the situation and move on , however difficult that maybe , like another poster said its time to draw a line under this now and think of the future .

No chance! We have a right go to a European appeal, and Bates should make sure this option is taken. If not UEFA, go to FIFA.

The defeatist attitude some fans portray is unbelievable sometimes. We should fight until we've exhausted all possibilites, and I believe Bates will do just that!
Woody

Maybe , but i think the club needs stablity now, and more court cases and appeals wont help with that , 15pts is a big loss yes , but if Wise and the players can step up to the plate and and unite the club and the fans it wont mean we face certain relegation , and who knows , if the team can show some desire , some yorkshire grit, we may even beat the odds and get into a playoff plce.

It's a UEFA appeal, not a court case. It's completely different, and about time UEFA or FIFA were brought in to sort out the FA's incompetency.

Maybe if Peter Ridsdale had kicked up more of a fuss a few year ago after Galatasaray - Like Bates WOULD have! We may have got some justice.

Whether you like him or not, Bates won't back down easy, and has been successful because of his fighting spirit (and conning ways).

He should, and I expect will, appeal this!

incompetency.
that is the keyword , our club has and still is being run in a incompetent if not in an illegal fashion, and because of that we are in the situation we are in now , if the club had not been run in such a way this would not even be an issue .

I hope tomorrow football and Leeds united can get back to being about that , football and entertainment , which at the end of the day is the most important thing for you and many others.

By all means Bates should fight it, but keep it behind closed doors, and do all he can to keep it quiet as the last thing any of us need is false hope. I have accepted it even though I know it is wrong, but at least now I know what we have to do and am not relying on the chance we might get it reduced.

No, totally disagree. Bates may be a lot of things, but incompetent isn't one of them. He's a very rich bloke for a reason, and whether or not it's all legit, is far beyond the stage where I pass caring. So long as he continues to provide money for transfers, and moves the club forward, he can kill defenceless baby chinchillas for all I care.

He his smart when it comes to looking after Ken bates , look what he did to chelsea , they were on the verge on bankruptcy before he sold up , and its the same underhand dealings that have got us in this mess now ,he will look after number one , he will walk away with a profit of that i have no doubts m but what state leeds united football club will be in when he does i dread to think.

Chelsea were a different ball game, they had assets which could easily have covered the debts at the time. Leeds however does show some lack of skills as a businessman but still he was trying to deal with other peoples problems and hence created some of his own. We can't get much worse than this, there only is one more league to drop down to, we will never go any lower.
Woody

well if we do drop down into league two, the whole cycle will start again im sure, first we will go into admin , lose more points, and start life in league two with a ten point deduction ,we have to stay up this season at all costs , then we really can begin to move forward.

Why on earth would we go into admin again? We are now a PROFITABLE club! Profiable clubs dont go into admin, and the financial differences between League 1&2 football are nowhere near enough to effect us dramatically enough to force us into insolvency once more.

Less of the drama queen episodes Woody! :p
