Former Leeds favourite and now Hollywood actor Vinny Jones is convinced his former team-mate Dennis Wise is the ideal man to bring the glory days back to Elland Road.

Since swapping playing the hard man on the field for playing the same role on celluloid, Jones' involvement in football has been minimal but following Wise's appointment at Leeds, a return to his old stamping could be on the cards.

Jones is still held in high regard at the club which he joined in 1989 and he sees parallels with the situation Leeds were in then, and now.

Prior to making the decision to move north, Wise elected to seek the advice of Jones and it was a ringing endorsement of the club, and the city, that he received as a consequence.

"I will come back without a doubt," Jones told Yorkshire Radio.

"Leeds fans gave me so much and it's a club very close to my heart. Fingers crossed it will be the same for Dennis.

"It's a similar situation now to when Howard Wilkinson joined the club and brought me from Wimbledon. Working with Ken Bates is a great combination.

"I spoke to Dennis on Monday night. I told him what a brilliant city Leeds is and what a brilliant move it would be.

"The major thing I remember when I came for my medical is that you see the kids in Leeds shirts.

"It's not like in London where you see them in either Chelsea, Arsenal or West Ham shirts.

"They love their football in Leeds and they love their club."

Wise's relationship with Bates is sure to cause more than the occasional spark but with both pulling in the same direction, the latter feels it will be a winning combination.

Confident that his new manager will clear the club's deadwood and haul them from the Championship basement, Bates predicts tough-but-bright times ahead.

"The players are now playing for their careers and, in some cases, new contracts," said Bates.

"He will get out of the players whatever they have. He will get 110 percent from them, he'll get effort and fight. They'll discover he's a bad loser - and that makes him a winner."
