Lost for words.......

A man who was seriously injured in a horrific car crash caused by former world boxing champion Naseem Hamed attacked the decision to grant him early release from jail.

Hamed is to be freed next week after serving just 16 weeks of a 15-month jail sentence for dangerous driving.

The sportsman wrecked his £320,000 Mercedes McLaren in a high-speed head-on collision near a blind dip in the road, which left motorist Anthony Burgin with fractures to every major bone in his body.

Mr Burgin expressed his shock at the decision to free Hamed, 32, on an electronic tag under the Home Office's Home Detention Curfew (HDC) scheme.

"I am very upset that this has happened, I was obviously expecting Mr Hamed to serve a lot more of his sentence," Mr Burgin said.

"What happened to my wife and I was deeply distressing and nearly destroyed our lives.

"I am shocked that after such a serious accident Mr Hamed has been released after less than four months."

Sheffield Crown Court heard on May 12 that the former WBO world featherweight champion took a "stupid risk" while showing off his powerful sports car to a businessman and fellow motoring enthusiast.

Hamed, of Wyvern Gardens, Dore, Sheffield, was driving at a speed of at least 90mph on the wrong side of the carriageway as he approached the dip on Ringinglow Road, on the edge of the Peak District, in May last year.

The carbon-fibre supercar, with the registration plate NAS 1, was in a head-on collision with a Volkswagen Golf, driven by 38-year-old Mr Burgin, which was immediately stopped and propelled backwards by the impact.

Mr Burgin's wife Clare was also seriously hurt in the collision.

The Burgins' solicitor Jane Wright said tonight: "Naturally my client is deeply upset and shocked that Mr Hamed has only served a fraction of his sentence.

"At the time of sentencing Mr Hamed was advised that he would service a minimum of half his sentence.

"Mr Burgin is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he has been released a lot sooner."

The court heard that Michael Wood, the driver of a Ford Mondeo Hamed had tried to overtake, described the boxer's overtaking manoeuvre as "suicide".

Hamed left the crash scene because other drivers were horrified by what they had witnessed and feared an "ugly incident" might develop if he remained there.

The court heard Hamed was previously banned from driving for three months in 1995 for speeding in excess of a 50mph limit.

He was also given three penalty points in 1998, six in 1999 and three more in 2004 for speeding in excess of 30mph, 40mph and 30mph limits respectively.

A Prison Service spokeswoman said: "We do not comment on individual prisoners."

She added: "Home Detention Curfew provides suitable low-risk prisoners with a smoother and more effective re-integration back into the community.

"It allows prisoners to be released, depending on their sentence length, up to four-and-a-half months earlier than they would be otherwise.

"Prisoners released on HDC are subject to an electronically-monitored curfew to their home, usually for 12 hours a day.

"The scheme is highly successful: 85% of prisoners have completed their period of HDC successfully.

We have Police officers getting away with speeding at 169MPH and now this , let another celeb let off for a crime they committed
