Legal aid and Me

I got divorced in 1996 and got legal aid for the proceedings as i had 2 kids and only worked part time.
My ex was working full time and had moved in with a woman whos husband was locked up and had 3 kids.
I got the house and took out a mortgage in my own name,he got various other things.
Today i have received a letter from Legal services Commision to say that my legal aid charges were registered to my property. It says that i have accrued interest of £1882.26 making the total i OWE £4559.50 Interest will continue at 0.59p per day.
If i wish to make the payment in full i can send it to the address shown
Yeah right!!!! I will get my cheque book out and write a cheque out immediately.........Fupping NOT!!!!!!
After he went i worked 2 jobs to look after my kids and didn't get a penny from anywhere. No social,no maintainance ,nothing.
This is an unfair charge when he also got legal aid and hasn't had a penny
to pay anyone

Jillster

thats interesting.. I am getting legal aid..and have heard various things about having to pay it back.... which worries me .. its not a fair system, as you are getting it for a reason in the first place!!!

Be careful Jilly and ask your solicitor.I took the mortgage on and then i was considered to have collateral,i think thats what did me.
