Leeds have confirmed a decision over the validity of the club's 15-point penalty will be revealed before May 1 and an independent tribunal will convene again on Monday.

Leeds' lawyers have been, since Wednesday, attempting to convince a three-man panel that the League acted outside its jurisdiction when docking the points at the start of this season as punishment for allegedly breaking competition rules on insolvency.

And it seems they've done a very good job so far. The fact that Sir Philip Otton and his two sidekicks will sit for a fourth day - when three days had initially been set aside - suggests to me that Leeds have presented a very strong case and therefore have given the panel plenty to mull over.

If the sanction is overturned and Leeds are given 15 points back, the consequences could be far-reaching. Several of the Whites' promotion rivals - including Doncaster - have already threatened legal action depending on the outcome, which could see Leeds move into the automatic promotion places.

Is no news good news? Well, all this delay does is add to the uncertainty. Swansea, for example, were celebrating promotion last weekend but they will now go into their home game with Yeovil on Saturday needing another three points to make absolutely sure of their place in the Championship next season.
