antique store rip-offsyesterday i went browsing in an antique store. everything was super expensive, but i did manage to find a nice little metal tray which was marked on the front $0.25. well when i took it up to the cashier they turned it upside down and looked on the back and said it was $4.99. i said excuse me, it's supposed to be $0.25, they said, oh that's the price we paid for it in a garage sale, now we are charging $4.99! haha do you believe it?!? what a nerve, they could have at least removed the $0.25 sticker, duh! i just made a comment like, well i could just go to value village (a thrift store) and pay that price there duh!, and just walked out of the store lol. and the thing about it is it wasn't even in that great condition, it was only f*cking well worth $0.25. just proves what kind mark up they do in these fancy antique stores lol

I dont know about Canada, but in England, the shop has to sell you it at the lowest marked price by law.
This is one of the reasons they don't use price stickers that much any more.

That is true, that is why we (at work) dont use them anymore........not that I charge what I like of course!!!!!!!!
Being an ex antique dealer I can explain.
Antique dealers and retailers travel all over to find interesting and worth while collectables. Then they have to research it and find a price guide for it. It takes a lot of time and effort believe it or not.
But yeah, they have to charge the lowest price on the ticket ..or else!!!

thanks, lynn! yeah i figured that it was something like that. i think the people were more embarrassed than anything that i found the $0.25 sticker. it was an antiques mall, so there are various vendors that have stalls and you go and pay up at the front counter regardless of where it came from so i guess the cashier didnt have authority. anyway, i really didnt much care, i just wanted to say something about it haha, that's what i'm like....
