SPURS are the target for a sensational £250million takeover by the man behind the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Top officials from the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) visited White Hart Lane on a fact-finding mission recently.

And they returned to Canada convinced Tottenham were ripe for a buy-out.

The visit was led by Richard Peddie, president and chief executive of MLSE, along with his chief financial officer, Ian Clarke.

Now the Toronto sports holding company, which owns the famous Maple Leafs ice hockey team, has retained consultants Deloitte & Touche to advise on them on the proposed deal.

Peddie said: "We went over there with our eyes wide open on everything. We came away with a lot of ideas on how to maximise revenues but I don't know where it will take us."

A well-placed source in Toronto confirmed that Spurs are a hugely attractive target.

The source said: "MLSE are seriously considering a move into English soccer.

"They recognise that Tottenham is a well-established club that would benefit from new investment and the development of a new stadium.

"The Canadians have experience of extensively developing the Maple Leafs ice hockey team and could bring some of this expertise to the Premier League.

"They have the resources and the energy and desire to move Spurs forward into a new era of success."

According to Candian sources MLSE, who are valued at 1.75billion dollars, could initially move to create a marketing partnership with Tottenham before launching a full takeover.

well i hate the leafs... (in canada, if you don't live in toronto, you hate toronto, that's just the way it is here

) but if it brings them to canada on a tour at any point i would be thrilled
