Non-EU docs banned from training in BritainForeign doctors were yesterday banned from applying for training posts in a bid to guarantee jobs for British medics.
The move is designed to end the scandal of the state spending £250,000 on training home-grown doctors only for them to end up on the dole.
Health Secretary Alan Johnson said soaring numbers of UK medics meant there was no need to give training posts to foreign doctors.
He added: "We are moving to a policy of self-sufficiency.
AdvertisementIf UK medical graduates cannot access specialist training because of a large number of applicants from outside Europe, then it is only right we should consider what needs to be done."
Around 10,000 non-EU medical graduates are currently in the UK.
