None of us like to pay income tax, but we live in a very rich and successful country because collectively our tax pays for it.
Personally, the hike in alcohol tax annoys me. Not because I don't want to pay more for alcohol, but because I don't like the tactics the Goverment have used to justify it. By this I mean the extension of opening hours. One minute they're extending opening hours, to try and make Britain more "continental," (EU) which they claim has worked well in reducing drink-related crimes. The next they're raising taxes on alcohol expecting us to believe it's to combat the ever-growing drink-related crime levels! It's obsurd!
It's essentially, yet another hidden tax which allows them to keep income tax at the current rate and control inflation. This in turn makes Labours handling of the economy look exceptional, when in relality, all they've done is raise taxes through hidden charges.
Having said that, I am still very pro-Labour. The Tory leader is an absolute joke, and couldn't run a bath, nevermind a country, and unfortunately he's the only realistic opponent to Gordon Brown. Labour also rescued us from the mess the last Conservative Government left us, which almost sent the country into a recession.
We demand a lot from the Government. Unfortunately none of us are willing to pay the extra taxes needed in order to pay for the improvements we want. Income tax DOES need to go up if we're to improve prisons, policing, the NHS, the road network and everything else people continually complain about. A good starting point would be to leave the EU as we pay a lot more in than we get out, but neither Labour or the Conservatives would ever consider this!

But didn't the Conservatives rescue us from the work shy striking mess that had become the norm. When the Trade Unions had more power than the politicians!! They could bring the country to a halt and they did it - the 3 day weeks and power blackouts were no fun.
Whoever we have to Govern us will fail to deliver - personally I have never been worse off than I am at the moment - despite both myself and my other half bringing in good wages - maybe its time for a change - having had only one change of political power in nearly 30 years has brought in complacency. Either change or emigration I'm thinking.
