lol the marge would work as a burn keeps burning for about 20 mins after the initial injury.
Putting anything like marge or vasaline or cling film works by stopping the air reacting with the burn and so theres nothing for the burn to 'feed' on so it stops burning.

Best thing to do is appreciate the pain, and realise that as your hand heals, it will be that little bit better adjusted to a similar occurence.
Pain is your friend, it is just weakness leaving the body.
