LEEDS United chairman Ken Bates is threatening to sue advisers to a rival who wants to buy the club over claims that he has acted fraudulently at Elland Road.
Mr Bates says that he will issue a writ today against London-based public relations firm Brunswick unless it retracts comments included in a document it has prepared for its client, Leeds property entrepreneur Simon Morris.
The document, entitled Project Peacock, covers the strategy on which Brunswick has advised Mr Morris.
No one from Brunswick was available for comment, but Mr Bates has a copy of the document and lawyers acting for him have written to Brunswick asking for the firm to respond and to make a "suitable retraction" by today.
Brunswick advises around 250 large firms on corporate relations including about one third of the companies in the FTSE 100 Index and either currently or in the past has worked with Marks & Spencer and BT.
Leeds United, which has debts of around £33m, went into administration earlier this month, ensuring the club's relegation from the Championship to League One.
Administrators from accountants KPMG will hold a meeting for club creditors on Friday when those owed money will vote on an offer of 1p in the pound put forward by Mr Bates. |
