final thoughts.........The world cup is now over for another four years , another WC where football failed to come home.
For me , and this aint sour grapes the teams in the final were not IMO the best in the tournment, they both played with no real imagination or flair , I think on our day we would have beaten both these teams.
I have read on other forums that peeps wanted France to win for ZZ , y??
He is French.
He is one of the richest player in the world.
He has won in before and the european championship.
He is follically challenged.
to cap it all off , he thinks he's a bull on heat , laffin , me is glad that italy won the final , even though I dont think either one of these teams could be considered the best team in Europe , nevermind the world.

Originally, I hoped that he would turn out a performance, but I'm glad Italy won in the end, cause I don't feel ZZ deserved anything after that disgrace - one of the worst thing I've seen from a Professional footballer

I wonder why he did it ? what the Itallian player said to him I cant imagine , sad thing is he will more than likely go on and make a fortune from selling his story about the whole thing nar , strange how football and life can be sometimes.

I guess he said something pretty nasty, but as Martin O'Neill said (first time he's managed to stick to the subject for the last 5 weeks ), "you only hear nasty things about every 15 seconds on the pitch"
At the end of the day, he WAS a professional player and should have known better. He's possibly cost his team-mates a winner's medal through that one piece of (stupidity, nastiness, evilness) - you choose which.
Up to then I'd quite enjoyed the game and thought after a poorish 1st half France were edging it, and could have had it won a couple of times. If ZZ had stayed on the pitch he could have done 1 thing to win the game, instead he blew his top and finished a superb career in disgrace.

Aye its a shame , with all his experience he should have bin able to handle that , and if need be have a word with him in the dressing room.
As for Martin O' neil , laffin , he reminds me of a lady old lady , he never shuts up make little sense , and is as Irish as they come

Yeah - He does seem to know his stuff (if you can separate it from the waffle), but heeither goes off on the biggest tangents you've ever heard, or hegoes at the same subject like a dog with a bone long after everybody else is bored with it. I'm sure he's such a good manager only because his teams play to the best of their ability (and above it sometimes) to avoid him going on about the way the kick-off was taken for the next three weeks.

exactly.
Anyway, you have any thoughts on the world Cup as atournament? How does it rate with others you've seen?
I think it's been a bit average to be honest - one or two really good games and a few more interesting ones, but none of the big teams really showed us what they can do - especially Brazil and England

I agree Mort I think on the whole it has been very very poor , i cant remember a game I thought Wow!!!!!!!!!! well not for footie reasons , the Holland V portugal game was sumat else for the sendings off, but other than that nar , I think like footie in general the romance and excitement seems to have been lost , I still think the 1978 was the best ever.

78 was a good 'un for sure.
I think money is part of the problem - the rewards are so great now that people would rather cheat than play football. Ronaldo (is the swear filter off?) is actually a very good player, but he will always take the option to fall over rather than try to play football, because (until FIFA actually make the referees punish cheating properly), that's the way to gain the greatest advantage.
Having said that, the one thing about this World Cup that stood out for me was how far the African nations have come - I do believe that if they can get a bit more experience against European and South American opposition, then an African team winning the World Cup is only a matter of time, and not very long at that.

I hope so , for the third world countries that would be sumat else, and maybe give the african nations some real hope, bit like Brazil now, football is for some the only way to escape poverty , same applies to Africa me tinks.
one thing about this WC is the new African nations we have seen , we have seen the likes of Cameroon and Nigeria but this time around different teams seem to have made it.
not sure why , but it can only be good for African footie.

I think coaches from Europe etc. have finally started looking for talent in the more obscure places - possibly because, at least to start with, they will be cheaper. A few players like Drogba and Essien coming from places like the Ivory Coast and Ghana will transmit their experience to the others and it will build from there. More coaches will realise the wealth of raw, untapped talent and things will improve. 20 years ago African Nations were almost novelty value, now they can be a real threat to more "established" European or South American teams. Ghane got to the last 16, and if Essien hadn't been banned they would have given Brazil an even rougher ride than they did. As it is they were by no means disgraced and if they'd had the luck go their way, could even have won the game!

I tink you are right and hey who could begrudge of that , me tinks the whole world would cheer if an African nation did win the WC.
Maybe that would bring back some of the romance back into the game , because im sure they would be playing for the love of the game and for the pride of their country rather than the big bucks.

absolutely mate - it's been the big plus of the tournament watching the Africans as far as I'm concerned. You can tell they're playing for the love of it rather than the money. I'm sure that a lot of the reason Ghana lost to Brazil was because they spent the first 10 minutes in awe of the team and the occasion. They gave away a soft goal after 5 minutes and unfortunately there was no way back, but the scoreline certainly flattered the Brazilians in my view.

I just hope that some of that rubs off next season,i want to talk about a good cup run for the thrill of doing just that next season , i want to talk about promotion for the pride of doing it , i dont want to talk about either for finiancal reasons , me tinks its a shame that kids are growing up watching LUFC with them thoughts now.

Exactly - I've seen Billy Bremner take the ball on the halfway line and run through a whole team and score. I want my daughter and grandchildren to see things like that without having to consider what it means for the bottom line. When I started following Leeds, we were up there with the best and it was going to last forever. A couple of seasons ago I started thinking it could all be over - I'm now sure we'll make the return to the big time (sooner rather than later) and god willing we'll have people at the club who won't risk it all "Living the Dream".

i cant see us being a top four side for at least another ten years , to me that dunt matter so much, as long as we get back the thrill of going to ER to watch Leeds for the right reason , me will never forget 1987 , me hopes that feeling i got from watching Leeds will return one day , and one day soon.

I've got this funny (and I hope wring) feeling that we're going to be a Bolton - Yo-Yo type team building as we go for about the next 4-5 years. we can only hope that KB Senior isn't willing to wait that long and will put some (affordable) money in so that he can eat at the top table again and rub their noses in it.

Me really dunt think we will go up this season , but i hope maybe next season , i cant see KB senior being in this for the long haul , for one he is way too old.
I have put my predications for the news season on the LUFC forum , can you help make that forum better Mort???
please
