Ferdinand agrees new contractRio Ferdinand has agreed a new five-year contract at Manchester United Football Club.
The England international has become one of the finest defenders in European football following his move from Leeds United for £30million in 2002, and his new deal will take him to the age of 34.
Ferdinand has forged a superb partnership in the heart of the Reds defence with Nemanja Vidic, and his agent has revealed the former West Ham United star could even extend his stay beyond his new deal.
"This new deal will take him beyond 34, but it won't be his last contract and in all probability it won't be his last contract at Manchester United," Pini Zahavi said in the Daily Express. "Rio is very, very happy there.
“He wanted to stay and they wanted him to stay. Of course he could have gone to another big club but he did not want to. I believe he can play longer than Paolo Maldini - and they believe so at Manchester United as well."
