Last year's match was certainly one to remember, as Martin Adams, a perennial under-achiever at this championship, finally claimed his first world crown with victory over Phill Nixon. That wasn't before a huge scare, however, as Nixon fought back from 6-0 down to level the game, but Adams kept his cool in the deciding set and took the match 7-6. AUSTRALIAN Simon Whitlock lost in the final of the world darts championship today, beaten 7-5 by Wales's Mark Webster.
Queenslander Whitlock, 38, fought back from 3-0 down in the first-to-seven-sets final to close the gap to 4-3.

Webster had a chance at victory going into the 11th set with a 6-4 lead, but the Queenslander dubbed the Wizard Of Oz pulled himself out of danger to move to 6-5.

But Webster, the world No. 1, held his nerve in a pressure-filled 12th set to clinch the match and win the British Darts Organisation title, the original world championship.
