For real aye..
Found myself looking on Ebay for stab proof vests for my son, then I thought 'whoa! if its this bad maybe I should bugger off someplace safer'
This country really has gone down the pan (and it'll get worse before it gets better), and Canada is a nice country, really nice.

I wish you all the luck in the world Tony.
My nephew went to Aus in September for the same reasons with his wife and 3 kids.
The kids have settled in so well and now have a life they could only have dreamed about here.

i looked into emigration earlier this year - canada looked tricky to get in even if you had a desired trade - although it is useful if you can speak french - decided if i do it it's New Zealand - but Chrissy Canadian would be a good enough reason to go in pursuit of the MAple Leaf

lol thanks, chimp!
bravo you should definitely come here, at least for a visit first to see if you like it. we do have our problems like anywhere, but it's a great place, i love it! what type of fire-sprinkler's do you do? is it for forest fires (cause we do get a lot of them where i live) or indoors? i think b.c. or alberta would probably suit you. of course, b.c. is the best province lol, but alberta has a lot of jobs. canada is quite divided, they call b.c. lotus land and we get teased for being too laid-back, granola-eating-tree huggers, the central part (ontario and quebec) are the rush, rush, rush big business people, maritimes are all unemployed lol. prairies are a buncha farmers lol anyway, if you have any questions at all about canada, feel free to ask me.

It's Ontario I feel more inclined towards, primarily for the climate and easier access to England & the US.
Somewhere along Lake Ontario appeals to me I think.
The type I do are indoor fire sprinklers though I am also skilled in 'deluge' systems such as in chemical plants etc, which I would assume are the type used to contain forest fires, though that isn't a problem in the UK so I have no experience of that type of system.
What is the craic with colleges and universities? Do you pay for them? Get loans? Government pays? Whats the deal there?

awwwww too bad, we could have been neighbours b.c. has the mildest weather though and most like what you'd be used to i think, but yeah it's kinda far from england. i live 10 minutes from the us border though, but if you move to ontario you'll be closer to new york, which is such a cool place. i have lived in quebec as well, it can get really cold in both ontario and quebec. your kids will probaby love the snow though and lake ontario actually feels like being on the ocean, it's that big.
for the most party, i think you pay for unversities and colleges, however there are lots of gov't programs for assistance and loans and you can get income tax credits for tutition for you and your dependents, or if your kids are smart they could get a scholarship

you're most welcome! i will just say this about living near the usa border, be careful about which cities you travel too, for instance, detroit, michigan, which is just across the border from windsor ontario is very scary and dangerous, it's one of the murder capitals of the states. there is an area of ontario from west of toronto to windsor that is called the golden horseshoe. there are a lot of nice places (although i haven't actually been there) like london, guelph, aurora, etc. they are not right on lake ontario though, but between 2 of the great lakes. going east from toronto towards montreal, there are some nice places along lake ontario, like kingston for instance. some very pretty little towns. i think ontario is actually quite traditional in it's cultural and ways, not like b.c., we are more wild and free-spirited here haha

Looking at t, Kingston looks quite nice, just a six hour drive from New York
Also, Ottawa and Montreal could be contenders

no no no no no no no no you definiately don't want to live in montreal or anywhere in quebec. if you do you will be forced to send your kids to french schools, if not, then private schools. all newcomers to quebec have no choice, the only way you can send your kids to english schools is if you were born there and went to an english school. they are so afraid of french being whittled away that they ensure that all immigrants are only allowed to learn french. the f*cking separatists and language police have f*cked up that city. quebec is what's called a "distinct society" in canada as they have the french language charter. believe it or not, there is probably more french signs there than in france! they are not allowed to have english signs and if they do the french writing must be twice as big. it's absurd, so stay away! lol kingston is nice, it is famous for it's peniteniary. it's about half-way between TO and montreal. ottawa is pretty bland but livable. it's all civil servants there, as it's canada's capital. it's a lot of french there too though

Hmm lol thats out then
Somewhere witihin an hour or so from Toronto should suffice then, I would need to stay close to Toronto as that is where the majority of the work would be, or at least close to some kind of Chemical/Nuclear facility that would need a lot of sprinkler work on it
|
Chrissy Canadian
|
hahaha yep, sorry for the rant but the rest of canada feels very strongly about quebec. they have caused a lot of problems and always say that english canada doesn't understand them... geesh, get over yourselves people! that's one thing i hate about central canada, the politics!
okay, so in ontario, stay away from brampton. they call it brangladesh for obvious reasons lol. hamilton is called steel town cause they have a lot of industry. it's not very pretty but it's probably got a lot of jobs, it's not too far from toronto

our population is pretty small, just over 30 million, so there really aren't the same amount of cities and stuff, even though the land mass area is pretty huge. i drove across canada and it was amazing. it takes about a week

Tis a beautiful country with great people
The downside is that government after government have totally ignored the wishes of the people and gone softer and softer on crime and criminals, so there now exists an underclass of vile people who dont care about peoples lives, liberties or feelings...an absolute mass of evil people who are above the law. They go to court laughing because they know nothing much will happen to them, and even if they do somehow get sent to gaol, they will have it nice and cushty with people falling all over themselves to look after them.
Meanwhile, I read of one story where the daughter of a murder victim had to clean up her fathers blood (which was splattered from floor to ceiling he was so badly battered) because nobody gave a flying frig about her, yet they fell over themselves to 'understand' the poor murderer.
The country is a great country, the people are a great people, but as usual we are lions led by donkeys and I just don't feel safe here any more.

Whats Mississauga like?
Just found out the company I work for has a branch there, so could just get a transfer...
|
Chrissy Canadian
|
mississauga is okay i think, i haven't actually been there, but i know that it is bascially a suburb of and part of greater toronto (just east of toronto on lake ontario), but not as snobby as toronto. you likely would live in the outskirts of town anyway where there a lot of nice little towns, as i think most people commute in to mississauga and toronto. that would be so cool if you could get a transfer again, there is a lot of places that you can easily travel to from there, including niagara falls, etc.

Actually, I do rather like the look of one of the tri-cities (I think they are called)...Kitchener, which is only an hour away from Mississauga, and my line of work doesn't have me in the office much anyway, can go years without ever having to go there, and an hour commute would be fine anyway.
Kitchener does look ok for families so it might be a go-er
|
Chrissy Canadian

yes, i think Kitchener, Waterloo and someotherplace lol are probably tri-cities. should be nice places i think. i know when i was a kid some friends of ours moved to b.c. from kitchener and had about 6 or 7 kids in their family
