has anyone ever looked at the price of goods in England and compared to ....say....the States!!!!! Petrol is cheaper, clothes are cheaper..i dont think its fair..

Right, the NHS comment is ridiculous. Whether you think the NHS is doing a good job or not, we have one of the worlds greatest health services, that is FREE to all British citizens! You can't get that anywhere else in the world! You break your leg, or have to spend time in hospital in America, or any other country, you'll come out to a massive bill!

As for the prices of things in this country as opposed to the US. The only major difference is fuel, but, having said that, American cars tend to have 6 litre engines, and aren't exactly economical, so they probably end up spending the same at the end of the day.

The difference in prices with everything else is to do with the strength of our economy. A CD over here may well cost a fiver more than it does in the US, but the average wage in the US is much lower, because the cost of living is significantly cheaper. It all works out the same when it comes down to what you can purchase with an average salary, but we're extremely lucky when we go abroad, as our strong economy makes it cheap!

And feel for those poor scandinavians with a bottom rate tax of 40% and very expensive shopping - if you ever get the ferry from newcastle to bergen, its full of norwegians taking tellies, microwaves etc home - thats why Sir John Hall built the Metrocentre where he did

Be thankfull to be British. Yes our NHS is a bit crap, but in America, if you don't have the right insurance/any insurance you are left to die!

Plus food in america is all shit. It is full of salt, sugar & fat, so you have to be really really skinny and just not eat, or risk eating and end up looking like Mr Blooby. There are no regulations for food additives, and there are no laws to enforce fortifying foods.

Cheap clothes are cheap in america, but you get what you pay for just like anyone else. I got a pair of Levis from the Levi store, did you know they are no longer made un the US? and they fell apart in weeks.

The grass is always greener on the otherside...

what gets me is how we moan about the price of petrol - when you compare it to lager - which is over £4 per litre - the biggest ingredient in lager is water ffs
