awwww i'm sure it will

lost my father 5 years ago, but we were never close.  cant say that he was a very good father actually.  he left our family years before and even when he was with us things were not good... i had real mixed emotions when he died.  it's like all those feelings that you somehow wanted things to be different and you wanted his approval but never got it, became so final and i knew that's how it was always gonna be.

Same with me Chrissy.  My dad was horrible, always shouting at us (I have a brother) and my mom. He was so moody and very bad tempered.

He and my mom split up (thank God) when I was 16 and things were so much better in our house after that.

My dad died a few years back and like you I had mixed emotions.  On the day of the funeral I didnt shed a tear but it was a few days later and something I could never understand why when I hated him so much, but I just burst into tears.

Ive never seen his grave and dont think I particularly am gonna bother.

yeah, it's a weird thing isn't it jo.  we didn't even have a funeral for my father but one of my sisters had a reception at her house, i don't think any of us cried.   in my family it was five girls (i am the middle one) and i really think my dad hated me and my oldest sister the most as we were the ones that would talk back to him.

Yeah that was like me, cos I used to stand up to my dad as well whereas my brother wouldnt say anything back.

My dad came to regret his nastiness later on though, cos he never got to see   Dan.

I only went to the funeral I didnt bother going to the wake afterwards.

thanks alan, yes i bet you are probably right.  i guess some people just don't know how to show it.  i know my dad had a lot of problems of his own, he was an alcholic and had a really lousy childhood too.  it's probably one of the reasons that i never had kids myself.  lol i'm getting all analytical here

No my dad sure didnt love us, he didnt know how to love. I remember when I lost my job and was living on my own, I was worried to death cos I was not able to get another one (cos of my looks, I was discriminated against) although I tried for a year.  Anyway I rang my dad cos he had said he would be guarantor to my mortgage (I had to borrow 5k at the time), and just asked him if he would be able to help me out for me to keep a roof over my head and he just flatly denied that he had ever said he would be guarantor - the thing was i wouldnt have been able to get a mortgage without someone guaranteeing that my mortgage could still be paid should I lose my job.  So there I was no job, worried to death about having somewhere to live and totally on my own (my mom had died of cancer a year or so before).

If that is a fathers love, then Im a Scum U supporter

My dad too was a right B*****d, always punching kicking us around. He died a few years back aged 51, maybe that was Karma. I was the same, cried at his funeral, but growing up as a kid I used to pray he'd die! I think youre right when you say, its all that frustration of not having a good relationship, and how it might have been. Our dad loved us very much, just didnt know how to control his temper, he had to vent, and it was us who bore that sadly. Nm, my kids have a fabulous dad in every way

My hubby's relationship with Dan is pretty much the same as my dads with me, so its like living it all over again.

i guess i'm lucky always had a bril relationship we my dad, he's the one guy i've always been able to depend on , was totally devestated when he had his stroke two years ago and although its left him bed ridden , unable to walk and with very little speech i still love him with all my heart , so been a day of mixed emotions for me today .

my boys had me crying this morn when they burst into my bedroom with two fathers day cards they'd made at school, both said inside

to mummy we love you loads and your doing a great job being our mum and our dad

bless them both never felt so overwhelmed
