LEEDS United woke from their first half slumbers and, bayed on by the vast majority of a
28,530 crowd, cemented their place in the League One play-offs with victory over
second-placed Carlisle.
Leeds brought in Darren Kenton for the suspended Alan Sheehan while Carlisle were
unchanged from the side which started the goalless draw against leaders Swansea City.

Carlisle employed a sole striker in Danny Graham but took a 16th-minute lead when Simon
Hackney crossed low from the left and Scott Dobie tapped in at the far post after the ball
eluded two players from each side.

United's response for the rest of the half was poor and the closest they came was from
shots from Bradley Jonson and Dougie Freedman which cleared the bar.

Leeds tore into Carlisle from the restart and Freedman bundled in a 49th-minute equaliser
after a curling shot from Neil Kilkenny had thudded off the chest of goalkeeper Kieren
Westwood.

Tresor Kandol replaced the struggling Jermaine Beckford and when the substitute's curling
shot was palmed away by Westwood, Jonny Howson was on hand to force the ball home.

United held the lead for just two minutes as Graham forced home a 60th-minute equaliser
when Casper Ankergren dropped a corner from Hackney.

Nine minutes later and Leeds were back in front, Freedman volleying home after Kilkenny's
free-kick into the six-yard area had bounced off a defender.

It continued to be a cut and thrust affair with Jonathan Douglas striking just wide from
Kandol's chest down.

Kandol should also have made it 4-2 in stoppage time but was denied by the goalkeeper.

3 great points for Leeds

it was a cracking game yesterday   freedman is diffrent class in this division and howson looks very good  he got my vote for young player of the year
also voted for prutton as player of the year

4 games to go in the playoff places and with the prospect of maybe getting some or all points back, not a bad season really when you look back
if we were to get 15 points back we would only be 4 points behined swansea so could still finish this season as champions how bloody good would that feel

Probably the most exciting game I've been to.  Fantastic game, as Wil says, Freedman is brilliant, I think we have to keep him, get him coaching a bit as well.  Howson is the future of the club, I have no doubts that if we can keep him, with Gary Mac in charge, Howson will play for us in the top half of the Premiership.  Glad to see Tresor get some support, the man beside me didn't like him, but stopped his moaning when told to support the team. Tresor should have scored at least 1 but it just wasn't his day.  His play was also crucial in the second goal.  Kenton was very impressive going forward, although he's clearly not a left back.  Centre backs did well although it would be nice to clear the ball further or pick out one of our own players.  Fraser had a decent wee game although I didn't think we was anything special.  Kilkenny and more so Johnson were very good, skillful players but tired to much instead of passing.  Dougie won the ball well and it's great to have him back, just needs to be more careful in possesion.  Beckford was a no show, obviously injured.

Finally Casper Ankergren, he has to learn to catch, he cost us 1 goal and then made the same mistake again, luckily we got away with it.

I've probably been too negative in my post as it was a great game, great 3 points, great performance and great atmosphere.

I did, as soon as I got home today I looked up flights for the gillingham game but they're too dear now, so I'll just save in case we have to go up through the play-offs.  I have to ask the regulars, has there been many better games than that one at Elland Road all season?
