Don't come back!
By Phil Hay
Kevin Blackwell has been banned from Leeds United after parting company with the Championship club, the Yorkshire Evening Post can reveal.
Blackwell was sacked as manager by United chairman Ken Bates yesterday after more than two years in charge, and the 47-year-old is understood to have been told to stay away from Elland Road while the terms of his settlement are decided.
The acrimonious split has also seen Blackwell prevented from attending the club's training complex at Thorp Arch, and he travelled to his family home in Luton last night without being able to say farewell to his squad en masse.
Leeds' players were given the day off yesterday following their Carling Cup game against Barnet on Tuesday evening, but Blackwell returned to work in the morning before receiving contact from Bates after Leeds' owner flew into England from his base in Monaco.
Confirmation of Blackwell's dismissal was released by United shortly before 4pm.
His departure from Elland Road is likely to come at a substantial cost to United after the club rewarded their manager with a new three-year contract in March.
Leeds have only recently completed payments to former managers David O'Leary, Terry Venables and Peter Reid, all of whom were sacked from Elland Road, and Blackwell's case is likely to be handled by the League Managers Association if he fails to reach an agreement with Bates over the size of his pay-out.
United were refusing to elaborate on the sacking this morning, but a short statement read: "The board of Leeds United have terminated the contract of manager Kevin Blackwell.
"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Kevin for the work he has put in over the past three-and-a-half years, the past two-and-a-half of which were as manager."
United today insisted that Blackwell's exclusion was standard practice with dismissed employees.
