Leeds will be without midfielder Kevin Nicholls until December after he underwent a knee operation.

Nicholls joined the Whites in a £700,000 switch from Luton during the summer but picked up a knee injury in his very first training session for the club causing him to miss the first five weeks of the campaign.

He has only just returned to action, with his fresh setback occuring when his boots got caught in the turf at The Hawthorns during Leeds' 4-2 defeat on Saturday.

Leeds caretaker manager John Carver confirmed: "Kevin has had an operation on his knee and we are all very disappointed for the lad.

"He has worked very hard to get himself fit after the first injury and he has now been hit by another freak.

"He's a strong character and very determined at what he does - he's proven that already with the way he came back from the first injury - and we can't wait to have him back again."

Speaking to the club's official site, Carver added: "Understandably, he's very down, but he'll get our full support and we hope he'll be back playing with us sooner rather than later."
