First Brit female to top US charts in 20 yrs

Leona Lewis has become the first British female singer to top the US singles charts for over two decades.

The X Factor winner saw off competition from American stars Usher and Madonna to grab the No1 spot with Bleeding Love.

And manager Simon Cowell is over the moon.

'I'm incredibly proud of Leona. What she has achieved in the past year is simply amazing,' he tells the press. 'I am very, very happy for her.'

Leona, 22, began a US tour earlier this year to promote her single and debut album Spirit.

She's now hoping the album will hit the No1 spot when it's released in the US on April 8.

Such a shame. There are far more deserving people that should occupy that spot. Such as the ones that write their own songs and put the effort in to make it to the big time. The ones who dedicate their life to music, and dream of becoming the next Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend etc... Not some jumped-up karaoke contestant winner.

Estelle feat. Kanye West could do well over there. Estelle is a British R&B artist and has collaberated with global superstar, Kanye West on her new song 'American Boy.' With the right publicity - which is what it actually takes to top America's charts, instead of talent - it could be a number one.
