Sir Paul McCartney is said to be seeking a ?50m divorce settlement which will prevent his wife Heather from ever "dishing the dirt". His alleged attempt to "gag" the ex-model for life is reported in The People. The paper claims her friends say she is furious over the demand from the ex-Beatle and may try to win a bigger chunk of his fortune.

A reported offer of £30m has already been rejected, The People adds, but has been upped to £50m because of fears a video diary was being planned

One of Heather's friends is quoted: "It's as though she is being asked to erase the entire period of her life she has spent with Sir Paul.

"If Sir Paul has his way she will have little option but to walk around in total silence."

The couple's acrimonious split has been heightened by media reports of allegations and counter-allegations about the couple's behaviour since they parted.

The paper says they are not communicating directly and both have recruited top divorce lawyers to represent them.
